Description as a Tweet:

Stay active during lockdown with your friends

Inspiration:

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, many healthy individuals are asked to stay at home in self-quarantine. In some countries, fitness centres and sport complexes are closed to minimize the transmission of virus. Staying at home for prolonged periods posed a challenge to remain physically active. Low level of physical activity may lead to physical deconditioning and negatively impacts people's health condition, mental well-being and quality of life. Also, it is known that physical activity is crucial for individuals with existing health/ mental health conditions to manage their symptoms.

In light of this, we would like to build an app to encourage individuals to stay active by incorporating social and gamification components, and track their progress with hardware monitors.

What it does:

Features:
- Users can sign up and login to their account
- Users can setup and customize their profile
- On the home page, users can view their progress, and start a workout session
- In the workout room, users can check who is online, join a workout session or create a new workout session
- Users can connect their app to wearable devices and fitness machines such as heart rate monitor, blood spo2 monitor, step counter, motor that emulate exercise cycle and etc, to monitor their vital signs and progress
- Users can search for and add friend to their friend list
- Users can set realistic daily/ weekly/ monthly targets and they will be awarded points upon accomplishing them
- As part of the gamification component, users with the highest points will be shown in the leader board

How we built it:

- UI design using Figma
- Front-end development for mobile app using react native
- Back-end development using Python
- Hardware development using C

Technologies we used:

  • HTML/CSS
  • Javascript
  • React
  • C/C++/C#
  • Python
  • Arduino

Challenges we ran into:

We are an international team, and timezone was a challenge. However, we are able to overcome this through effective communication and planning.

Accomplishments we're proud of:

We built a functional app in a short span of time!

What we've learned:

We learnt a lot about hardware and mobile app development.

What's next:

New features
- Group video call for workout session
- Recommended plans and targets according to users' health and medical conditions, and space constraints

Built with:

Arduino

Prizes we're going for:

  • Best Documentation
  • Best Venture Pitch
  • Best Mobile Hack
  • Best Healthcare Hack
  • Best Hardware Hack
  • Best Use of DataStax Astra
